Pharmacy First
Pharmacy First Service – NHS England
Pharmacy First is an NHS service that enables community pharmacists to offer advice and treatment for seven common conditions—without the need for an appointment at the GP surgery.
The conditions and eligible age ranges are:
Sore Throat – Ages 5 years and over | Insect Bites & Stings – Ages 1 year and over | Shingles – Ages 18 years and over |
Sinusitis – Ages 12 years and over | Impetigo – Ages 1 year and over | Diarrhoea |
Earache – Ages 1 to 17 years | Vaginal Thrush | Uncomplicated urinary tract infections (UTIs) – Women aged 16 to 64 years |
Pharmacists can carry out a clinical assessment, provide treatment or medication (including antibiotics) if appropriate, and refer patients if further care is needed.
You can access the service by walking into a participating pharmacy or via referral from your GP, NHS 111, or another healthcare provider.
This service improves access to care, supports GPs, and makes full use of pharmacists’ clinical skills.
